Safer Neighbourhood Reassurance

Posted on
There have been a number of nasty attacks and a spate of knife crimes in recent weeks and we want to help people feel reassured about safety, what the police are doing and plan to do, and the ways we might keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
On Friday 19th May members of the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will be attending our Coffee Morning (9:30am-12:00pm) so people can meet and have an opportunity to chat with the police over a cup of tea. If you are aware of those who are particularly concerned at this time or members of our community who feel particularly vulnerable this will be a good opportunity for them to meet the police and receive reassurance from them.
On Wednesday 31st May there is a Join SNT  Joint Ward Panel Meeting at Yiewsley Baptist Church. There will be refreshments from 7:00pm with the meeting starting at 7:30pm. This is a more formal event with presentations from the police and an opportunity for members of the Yiewsley and West Drayton communities to ask questions.
We are in discussions about a community vigil and details will become available in due course. Please do spread the word about these events, particularly to those you know who are worried at this time.

Our next Charity Quiz Night in support of Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice will be taking place at 7:30pm on Saturday 20th May. Come with a team or join one when you arrive, entry is free with donations taken for the charity.

With the forthcoming General Election we want to be able to hear from those people who are putting themselves forward to represent us in Parliament. We have invited the candidates from the most popular parties locally at the last election to participate in a Question Time style debate with those who attend able to ask the questions about the issues that concern you. The debate will take place on 28th May from 7pm and is open to all but to help with planning free tickets are available from Eventbrite

Any finally we are most excited about our forth coming Community Fun Day on Saturday 3rd June from 11am-3pm. We have a small stage with performances confirmed from local artist Alanah Black and the Yiewsley and West Drayton Band amongst others, we still have a couple of spaces if you’d like to join in with dance, music or story telling. There will be stalls selling fair trade products, hand made pens, cards, plants, and cakes, etc. We have a number of charities including Yiewsley Cornerstone Centre, Harlington Hospice and the Community Cancer Centre. The day will also include my Ordination at about 1:30pm.

April 2017

This month we are looking forward to celebrating Easter, the central and defining moment for our Christian faith, the resurrection of Jesus Christ meaning death is overcome and we can know God personally. There are various activities and events taking place so why not come along and get involved…

What’s on This Week…

Sunday 9th April is known as Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday because it marks a special day when Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem to shouts and cheers of ‘Hosanna’ and expectation of many that he was going to become king.

That view was not held by all and there was a plot against him. One evening he was gathered with his friends for the traditional Passover Meal; a time of getting together with family and loved ones and remembering God’s salvation. This has become known as ‘The Last Supper’ and at Yiewsley Baptist Church we will be enjoying an International Dinner on Thursday 13th April. Doors open at 6pm and we’ll be aiming to eat about 6:30pm. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to add to the meal and we will share together.

After the meal Jesus was arrested, tried and sent to his death. We know this as Good Friday because it is the day Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of old and took upon himself the wrong doings of the world. On Friday 14th April, 10:00am there will be a short time of prayer outside Yiewsley Baptist Church and then we will walk down to St Matthews Church for a public service (10:30am) with the other local churches followed by hot cross buns.

On Saturday 15th April there will be the monthly church prayer meeting at 10am. If you have not been before this is an opportunity to gather together and pray for the life of the church and the local community. All are welcome, you do not need to pray but can listen to the prayers of others and if you would like to ask for prayers for your own concerns.  Later that day a group from St Matthew’s Church are going to be walking around the neighbourhood giving away Easter Eggs. If you would like to join them please meet outside Yiewsley Baptist Church at 12pm and they will pass by and collect you shortly after.

On Sunday 16th April we will be celebrating Easter Sunday with a joy filled service at 10:30am.

Wanted: Musicians, Choirs, Face Painters, Entertainers, Stall Holders, Crafters, Artists, Jugglers, Bakers, Flower Arrangers and much more…

We are holding a Community Fun Day on 3rd June 2017 and we would love for the community to be involved. There will be a small stage for people to perform, an area for refreshments, a hall for stalls and games and we need you, your friends or your family to fill these.

Does your school or work place have a choir that would like to perform? Are you in a band or a solo performer that likes to entertain? Would you like to sell crafts you make from a small stall? Could you provide meals and refreshments? Are you involved with a charity that would like to promote its work?

Entry will be free. All we ask is that you bring a smile and joy to the event. Stall holders charging for their services/ good are invited to make a donation to Yiewsley Baptist Church but there is no set fee.

Submissions for contributions close 12th May allowing us to finalise the agenda and layout. For more information or book a place please email info@yiewsleybaptistchurch.com or call 01895 449898.

On 24th April the new Yiewsley and West Drayton Foodbank will open its doors for the first time to help local people in crisis. We have a collection point for food donations at Yiewsley Baptist Church and Rich is able to issues vouchers to those in need. The Foodbank requires donations of food and volunteers for a variety of roles. Attached is a  copy of the current shopping list (copies are available in the church) and if you would like to find out more about the opportunities to get involved can I encourage you to visit the website or contact the Carol (Project Manager) at info@yiewsleywestdrayton.foodbank.org.
