This is a guide to help you reflect on the readings above. If you are on your own enjoy the time to reflect quietly. If you are home with others who would usually be at church with you find some time together. You can make notes as you follow each stage or may choose to talk with one another.
Take some time.
5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, it’s up to you.
Read through the Bible reading
Read it steadily two or three times or use the listening feature of the link above.
Notice which words or themes stand out to you.
You might like to make a note of them or highlight them in a physical Bible.
Notice how the reading makes you feel.
For example, is it comforting? Does it make you feel frustrated or angry? Does it make you feel excited?
Notice what or who the reading make you think about?
For example, Does the reading resonate with something in your own life? Or, are their words that make you think of someone else? Is there something that would be helpful to share with others?
Say a Prayer.
(The following is an example; you can use it or say your own)
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Thank you for the Bible, for the lessons we can learn and the guidance You give. I thought about [insert who and what the readings made you think about] and I would like to offer them into your hands. Be with them, with me, with us today. Amen.
God in Our Lives:
This week there is no sermon or reflection. On Zoom we will be sharing those things for which we are thankful and those things for which we would like prayer.
If you are unable or choose not to join us on Zoom but would like to share prayer request please do contact Rich.
There will also be a few updates about the church which church members will receive a separate paper. The key things to share with everyone are that we are carefully assessing the phased re-opening of the building and re-gathering for worship and other activities. Our priority is for the health and well-being of our members, friends and visitors and we have agreed that nothing changes for us until September at the earliest. Stuart has kindly agreed to take a lead in coordinating this and we will do our best to keep everyone updated as best we can.
Rich has been given August off to catch up on some much needed rest and enjoy some annual leave with his family. Therefore, services will be taken by others from the church and may alter week by week. Joanne is kindly coordinating these and will do her best to make sure everyone has every that they need to participate.
Song: Be Thou My Vision
(Tr. Mary E. Byrne & Eleanor H. Hull.)
You are God’s servants, gifted with dreams and visions,
Upon you rests the grace of God like flames of fire.
Love and serve the Lord in the strength of the Spirit.
May the peace of Christ be with you,
The strong arms of God sustain you,
And the power of the Holy Spirit strengthen you in every way.
